Firstly we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for helping making this happen. From the first time we asked for volunteers to row we had an unprecedented amount of people wanting to take part and raise lots of money. Also to everyone who donated prizes to the stall, we had over 200 prizes – making it quite a challenge to coordinate and make sure we had plenty of winners. Now lets talk about the day…
Each rower was targeted to raise a minimum of £150 and to say we smashed it, is an understatement – keep reading for the final figures at the end!
The weather, despite our rain dances, didn’t play to our strengths – it was possibly one of the wettest days on record for July but that didnt damper our spirit or determination to do well.
Each race saw 18 rowers take to the Ouse and compete against other charities – sadly this year we didn’t qualify for the semi finals but we definitely had alot of fun trying to reach it – it was cold, it was wet but the crowds cheered us on and we had the best day. From older veterans to the race to new rowers it was a game for all and came from Selby, York, Easingwold, London & Barcelona to take part!! (you could have brought the sun with you Antony!!) Mr Roast came to join us and fed us well making sure energy was high.
The tombola side was alot of fun – plenty of happy winners with some fantastic prizes… we had some great compliments and were joined by family and friends with plenty of volunteers.
The York Rotary are perfect hosts, they coordinate both sides safely and some of the funds we raise help them with their local charities. Thank you to them.
The amount of money raised is outstanding and we are pleased to say that we raised a total of just over £7000 which is the highest we have ever raised at this event. To the crew – thank you we are very proud and cannot thank you enough.
If you would like to take part – please email the trust – volunteers/rowers welcome!!
See you next year !!!
